视野
Meaning
Field of vision; visual field; (figurative) intellectual horizon, breadth of knowledge and experience.
Operates on two levels: the literal visual field (the total area visible to the eye at any one moment) and the figurative horizon of knowledge, experience, and perspective. 拓宽视野 (to broaden one's horizons) is a very common collocation. Other key phrases: 开阔的视野 (a broad horizon), 视野狭窄 (narrow-minded, limited perspective), 国际视野 (international outlook), 全球视野 (global perspective). The figurative sense is dominant in academic and educational discourse. Contrast: 视角 (a specific angle or perspective — more methodological), 眼界 (horizon of experience — more colloquial).
