Meaning
Complex; a deep-seated emotional fixation or psychological knot. An ingrained pattern of feeling or unresolved attachment that strongly influences thoughts and behaviour.
Borrowed from psychoanalytic vocabulary (the Freudian 'complex'). In everyday Chinese it describes strong emotional preoccupations: 英雄情结 (hero complex), 故乡情结 (nostalgia for homeland), 恋母情结 (Oedipus complex). Implies something deep, persistent, and not easily resolved.
