Meaning

Completely baffled and unable to understand; utterly puzzled. A four-character idiom describing a state of deep confusion where one cannot find an explanation.

A fixed idiomatic expression (成语-like phrase) used when someone is so confused that they cannot work out any explanation at all. Stronger than simply 迷惑 or 困惑 — the 不解 element reinforces that the confusion is unresolved. Common in written and spoken formal Chinese.
