朦胧
Meaning
Hazy; misty; dim; indistinct. Describes something that is unclear or vague in perception — visually obscured, or mentally unclear. Also refers to the drowsy state between waking and sleep.
Frequently used in literary and poetic language to evoke atmosphere, especially misty landscapes or half-awake mental states. 朦胧诗 (Misty Poetry) is a significant literary movement of the 1980s in China. The word carries aesthetic connotations of romanticism and ambiguity.
