贯通
Meaning
To link through; to achieve thorough understanding; to connect seamlessly. Describes either physical connectivity (two tunnels meeting) or intellectual mastery (understanding a subject completely).
Appears in both infrastructure contexts (两线贯通 — two lines connected) and intellectual ones (融会贯通 — integrate knowledge into a coherent whole). The compound 融会贯通 is one of the most common four-character expressions for deep, holistic mastery.
