光碟
Meaning
Optical disc; CD/DVD. A flat, circular disc that stores data, music, films, or software using laser technology.
The standard term for optical discs in Taiwan and Hong Kong Chinese. Mainland China more commonly uses 光盘 (simplified). Both terms cover CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs. 光碟 also appears in the idiom 光碟机 (optical disc drive). As physical media has declined, the term now often appears in nostalgic or archival contexts.
