参见
Meaning
See also; refer to. A directive used in academic, legal, and official texts to point readers toward related content, footnotes, or cross-referenced sections.
A strictly formal, written-language term. Almost exclusively found in academic papers, legal documents, official reports, and technical manuals. Not used in spoken conversation. When you want readers to look elsewhere for more information, 参见 is the standard signal. Comparable to 'cf.' or 'see also' in English academic usage.
Examples
- 本章涉及的统计分析方法,参见附录B中的详细推导过程。 For the statistical analysis methods covered in this chapter, refer to the detailed derivation in Appendix B.
- 关于该政策的历史沿革与争议,参见第三章第二节的系统论述。 For a systematic account of the historical development and controversies surrounding this policy, see Chapter 3, Section 2.
- 译者注:此处的文化背景较为复杂,参见书末专门整理的文化注释。 Translator's note: the cultural background here is fairly complex — see the cultural notes compiled at the back of the book.

Don't Say
- 口头说'参见我刚才讲的'。(参见 is a written/formal citation directive — in speech, say 就像我刚才说的 or 请参考我之前提到的 instead)
Origin & History
参 (to consult/participate in) + 见 (to see/refer to). Literally 'go and see/consult.' Used since classical Chinese to direct attention to relevant texts or sources.
