一鼓作气
含义
To accomplish something in one vigorous effort; to press forward while momentum is high and complete a task without letting resolve falter.
A four-character idiom (成语) from Zuo Zhuan (左传). Historical origin: Cao Gui advised that the first drumbeat (一鼓) raises troops' spirit (作气); by the third beat, morale flags. Applied broadly to any endeavour requiring sustained momentum and concentration in a single push. Compare 趁热打铁 (strike while the iron is hot).

错误说法

起源与历史
一 (first/one) + 鼓 (drum — 壴 drum on stand + 攴 strike) + 作 (to raise/create) + 气 (spirit/morale). From Zuo Zhuan: 一鼓作气,再而衰,三而竭 (the first drumbeat raises spirit; the second weakens it; the third exhausts it).
