アニメ化
Meaning
Getting an anime adaptation — when a manga, light novel, or game is turned into an anime series or film.
アニメ化 is one of the most exciting announcements in otaku culture. When a beloved manga or light novel gets an anime adaptation, fans celebrate while nervously hoping the studio and staff will do the source material justice. The suffix 化 (becoming/transformation) is highly productive in Japanese — similar formations include 映画化 (movie adaptation) and ゲーム化 (game adaptation).
Examples
- ずっと待ってた漫画がついにアニメ化決定した! The manga I've been waiting for has finally been confirmed for an anime adaptation!
- アニメ化ガチャ外れたら原作のイメージ壊れるから怖い。 If you lose the anime adaptation lottery and get a bad studio, it ruins the source material's image, so it's scary.
- アニメ化で原作の売上爆伸びするパターンあるよね。 There's a pattern where anime adaptations cause the source material's sales to explode.
