- ひらがな ひらがな Hiragana. The cursive Japanese syllabary used primarily for native Japanese words, grammatical particles, and verb endings.
- カタカナ カタカナ Katakana. The angular Japanese syllabary used primarily for loanwords, foreign names, onomatopoeia, and emphasis.
