意味

A particle placed between nouns or phrases to present alternatives, equivalent to English 'or.' It connects two or more options from which one is to be chosen.

か as an alternative marker joins two or more nouns, noun phrases, or sometimes clauses to indicate a choice between them. Unlike English 'or,' か is placed directly after each alternative item rather than between them. In casual speech, か can sometimes be replaced by それとも at the sentence level, but か remains the standard particle-level connector. Learners sometimes confuse this use of か with the question-marking か; the distinction lies in position — alternative か appears mid-sentence between options, while interrogative か comes at the end. When listing more than two alternatives, か follows every item except optionally the last.
