源头

Chinese HSK 7-9 Vocabulary Chinese ★★ 2/5 neutral yuán tóu
Pinyin yuán tóu
Hanzi breakdown 源 = 氵 + 原 (water radical + original/primordial — primordial water source); 头 = pictograph of a human head (top, beginning, leading edge of something)

Meaning

Headwaters; source; the very origin of a river, problem, or phenomenon. The traceable starting point from which something flows or arises.

More concrete and spatial than 源泉, 源头 often refers to the physical starting point of a waterway or the traceable origin of a problem or event. 追溯源头 (trace back to the source), 从源头治理 (govern from the root cause), 找到问题的源头 (find the root of the problem), and 文化源头 (cultural origin) are common in policy, analytical, and investigative contexts. Emphasises traceability and causal priority.

Examples

  2. 在公共卫生应急中,快速准确地定位疫情源头,是切断传播链和维护公众信任的前提,调查透明度直接影响防控配合。 In public health emergencies, quickly and accurately locating the source of an outbreak is the prerequisite for cutting off transmission and maintaining public trust, and the transparency of the investigation directly affects cooperation with control measures.
  3. 网络谣言虽经多次转发,技术上通常仍可追到原始源头;但法律执行有限,跨平台壁垒也让追责难以系统化。 Although online rumors may be forwarded many times, they can usually still be traced back to the original source; however, limited legal enforcement and cross-platform barriers make accountability hard to carry out systematically.
