商贾
Meaning
Merchants; traders; businesspeople. A classical and literary term for those engaged in commerce, combining two classical words for different types of traders.
A formal and literary compound combining 商 (originally the Shang people, renowned traders) and 贾 (a stationary merchant). Used in historical texts, formal writing, and literary contexts. Carries an elevated or archaic register, distinguishing it from colloquial 商人 (merchant) or 商贩 (vendor).
