娘
Meaning
Mother; a term of address for one's mother in certain dialects; also used in compounds referring to women.
A dialectal or colloquial word for mother, common in northern and rural Chinese speech. Also appears in compounds: 娘家 (wife's parents' home), 亲娘 (biological mother), 老娘 (I/me — self-address for older women, or colloquially by women asserting themselves). In modern usage, 娘 can also describe an effeminate man (informal slang). The compound 娘胎 means 'mother's womb'.
