Meaning

Fall behind; be left behind; drop; miss or leave out. Used for missing information, lagging behind in progress, or physical dropping.

落下功课 (fall behind in studies), 落下病根 (contract a chronic ailment), 落下笑柄 (become a laughingstock). Note: pronounced luòxia for being left behind or missing something, vs luòxià for physically falling downwards.
