Hanzi breakdown 拐 = 扌 (hand) + 另 (other; turn aside) — to turn or bend; 弯 = 弓 (bow) + 亦 (also) — curved like a bow

Meaning

To turn a corner; to make a turn; to change direction. Both a physical turn while walking or driving, and a figurative shift in thinking or approach.

Used literally in navigation to describe turning at an intersection or bend. Figuratively, it describes someone who has difficulty changing their mindset or who finally adapts their approach. The idiom 拐弯抹角 (to beat around the bush) is a well-known extended expression. 拐弯处 means 'at the corner.'
