Meaning

To conceive; to plan creatively; a creative conception. The process of forming and organising the ideas and structure of a creative or intellectual work before execution.

Used extensively in artistic, literary, and architectural contexts. 构思 refers to the ideation and planning stage — thinking through the concept, structure, and approach of a work before producing it. Often appears in phrases like 精心构思 (carefully conceived) and 构思巧妙 (cleverly conceived). Distinct from 构想 in that 构思 emphasises the creative process within a specific work.
