Many J-initial words are among the most versatile in Chinese, appearing across formal and informal contexts.

15. 夹 jiā To clip; to clamp; to pick up with chopsticks. Holding something between two surfaces.
16. 甲 jiǎ First; Party A; shell/armor; fingernail. The first in a sequence.
17. 价 jià Price; value. The cost or worth of something.
18. 驾驶 jià shǐ To drive; to pilot. Operating a vehicle or aircraft.
19. 驾照 jià zhào Driver's license. Official permit to drive a vehicle.
20. 坚定 jiān dìng Firm; resolute; to strengthen. Having or showing determination.
21. 肩 jiān Shoulder. The part of the body between the neck and arm.
22. 艰苦 jiān kǔ Arduous; difficult; hard. Involving severe hardship or difficulty.
23. 艰难 jiān nán Difficult; hard; arduous. Full of difficulties or obstacles.
24. 检验 jiǎn yàn To test; to examine; to inspect. Checking quality or validity.
25. 减轻 jiǎn qīng To lighten; to reduce; to alleviate. Making something less severe or heavy.
26. 剪 jiǎn To cut with scissors; to trim. The action of cutting.
27. 剪刀 jiǎn dāo Scissors. A cutting tool with two blades.
28. 剪子 jiǎn zi Scissors. A colloquial term for scissors.
