起源与历史
From Old English 'lǣtan' meaning 'to allow' or 'to leave'. Confusingly, there was also an Old English 'lettan' meaning 'to hinder' (the opposite!), which survives only in 'without let or hindrance' and the tennis term 'let' (when the ball hits the net). The property sense ('to let') comes from allowing someone to use a space.
