supersonic
含义: Travelling at or relating to speeds exceeding the speed of sound (above Mach 1, approximately 767 mph at sea level).
Supersonic has strong cultural resonance in Britain through Concorde, the Anglo-French supersonic airliner that operated from 1976 to 2003. The term entered popular consciousness during the postwar race to break the sound barrier, achieved by Chuck Yeager in 1947. Beyond aviation, supersonic is used figuratively to mean extremely fast, though this is informal. In physics, the supersonic regime involves shock waves and fundamentally different aerodynamic behaviour.
