pacify
含义: To bring peace to a region or group, or to calm and soothe someone who is angry, agitated, or distressed.
Pacify operates at two scales. In military and political contexts, it describes imposing order on a restive population or territory — often euphemistically, as the 'pacification' of a region may involve considerable force. In everyday and domestic contexts, it simply means to calm someone down, particularly a child. The word's dual nature makes it both a term of diplomacy and a gentle parenting verb.
