endoscopy
含义: A medical procedure in which a flexible tube with a light and camera (endoscope) is inserted into the body to examine the interior of an organ or cavity, most commonly the digestive tract.
An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy (often called a gastroscopy) examines the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum, and is one of the most frequently performed procedures in the NHS. Endoscopy can also be used therapeutically to remove polyps, take biopsies, or treat bleeding. The term serves as a general category encompassing more specific procedures such as colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cystoscopy.
