consonant
含义: A speech sound produced by partially or fully obstructing the airflow in the vocal tract, or a letter of the alphabet representing such a sound.
Consonants are classified by their place of articulation (where the obstruction occurs), manner of articulation (how the airflow is restricted), and voicing (whether the vocal cords vibrate). English has approximately 24 consonant phonemes. Consonant clusters, where multiple consonants appear together without intervening vowels, pose particular difficulty for learners of English.
