canyon
含义: A deep, narrow valley with steep sides, typically larger than a gorge and often carved by a river over millions of years.
The Grand Canyon in Arizona is the most famous example, but canyons are found worldwide wherever rivers have cut through rock over geological time. Submarine canyons also exist on the ocean floor. In urban contexts, 'urban canyon' or 'street canyon' describes the effect created by tall buildings on either side of a narrow street, affecting wind patterns and sunlight. The term is more common in American geography but is used universally.
