bearing
含义: A machine component that constrains motion to the desired direction and reduces friction between moving parts. Also, a person's posture or manner, or a compass direction.
In engineering, bearings are found in virtually all rotating machinery — motors, wheels, fans, and turbines. Ball bearings use small steel balls to reduce friction, whilst roller bearings use cylindrical rollers. Beyond engineering, 'bearing' has several important meanings: one's bearing is their manner or composure ('she maintained her bearing'); bearings are compass directions ('take a bearing'); and 'to have a bearing on' means to be relevant to something. 'To lose one's bearings' means to become disoriented.
