anaesthesia
含义: The medically induced loss of sensation, especially to permit the performance of surgery or other painful procedures without the patient feeling pain.
Anaesthesia can be general (rendering the patient unconscious), regional (numbing a large area, such as an epidural), or local (numbing a small specific area). An anaesthetist is the doctor who administers anaesthesia — in British English this is a fully trained specialist, whereas in American English the equivalent term is 'anesthesiologist.' Note the British spelling with 'ae.'
