ageism
含义: Prejudice or discrimination against people on the grounds of their age, particularly directed at older people in employment, healthcare, and social participation.
Ageism is recognised as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, making age discrimination in employment unlawful. However, ageism remains widespread and often more socially acceptable than other forms of discrimination. It can affect younger people too — being dismissed as inexperienced or immature — but most commonly targets older adults. In healthcare, ageism can result in older patients receiving less thorough treatment. The adjective 'ageist' describes attitudes, policies, or behaviours that discriminate on the basis of age.
