Legacy
含义: A college applicant whose parent or grandparent attended the same institution, often given preferential admission.
'Legacy admission' is one of the most controversial aspects of American college admissions. If your parent went to Harvard, you are a 'legacy' and statistically have a much better chance of getting in. 'He is a legacy' can explain an acceptance that might not have happened otherwise. Legacy policies favor wealthy, predominantly white families and perpetuate educational inequality. The practice is uniquely American and has faced increasing criticism and legal challenges. Some schools have begun dropping legacy preferences.
