Meaning: The sister of one's parent, or the wife of one's uncle
An aunt is a female relative who is either the sister of your mother or father, or the wife of your uncle. Children often call close family friends 'aunt' as a term of respect and affection, even without a blood relationship. 'Auntie' is an affectionate or informal form commonly used in British English.
