although
Meaning: Despite the fact that; even though
Although introduces a contrasting or unexpected fact. It's similar to 'though' but slightly more formal. Unlike 'but', it comes at the start of its clause. It can begin a sentence or appear mid-sentence. 'Although' is never followed by 'but' in the same sentence—choose one.
