sequestration
Meaning: The process of capturing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, or more generally, the act of isolating or setting something apart.
Carbon sequestration is a key strategy in combating climate change, achieved naturally through forests and oceans or artificially through carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. In law, sequestration refers to the seizure of assets by court order. The term carries a technical, formal register in all its applications.
Examples
- Forests play a vital role in carbon sequestration by absorbing CO2 during photosynthesis.
