projection
Meaning: In psychology, the unconscious attribution of one's own feelings, thoughts, or motives to another person; more broadly, an estimate or forecast of future trends based on current data.
Psychological projection is a defence mechanism identified by Freud, in which a person denies their own unacceptable qualities and attributes them to others. In business and finance, projection refers to forecasts of future performance. In cartography, it describes methods for representing the curved earth on a flat map. The word is remarkably versatile across disciplines.
