Meaning: Most common, influential, or prominent among a group of things; having greater power, importance, or frequency than others.
Predominant describes whatever is most significant or widespread in a given context. It is used across academic, scientific, and journalistic writing. The adverb 'predominantly' is extremely common. Common collocations include 'predominant view,' 'predominant factor,' and 'predominant colour.' Not to be confused with 'predominate' (the verb form, meaning to be greater in number or influence).
