megahertz
Meaning: A unit of frequency equal to one million hertz (cycles per second), used to describe FM radio frequencies, early computer processor speeds, and various telecommunications signals.
The megahertz (MHz) is the standard unit for FM radio broadcasting, television frequencies, and the clock speeds of earlier microprocessors. While modern processors are measured in gigahertz, megahertz remains relevant for describing memory bus speeds, radio channels, and lower-frequency wireless systems. Ofcom allocates spectrum in megahertz bands for broadcast, mobile, and satellite services in the UK.
