kinetic
Meaning: Relating to or resulting from motion; in physics, kinetic energy is the energy an object possesses due to its movement.
Kinetic energy is one of the two main forms of mechanical energy (the other being potential energy). The kinetic energy of an object increases with its mass and the square of its velocity. Beyond physics, 'kinetic' is used in art (kinetic sculpture), warfare (kinetic strike), and general language to describe dynamic, energetic qualities.
Examples
- The kinetic energy of the moving vehicle was converted into heat by the braking system.
- Alexander Calder was a pioneer of kinetic art, creating sculptures with moving parts.
- The military briefing distinguished between kinetic operations involving force and non-kinetic approaches such as diplomacy.
