harmonic
Meaning: Relating to or characterised by musical harmony, or in physics, a component frequency of an oscillation that is a whole-number multiple of the fundamental frequency.
In acoustics and music, harmonics determine the timbre of an instrument: a violin and a flute playing the same note sound different because their harmonic profiles differ. In electrical engineering, unwanted harmonics in power systems can cause equipment damage and energy waste. The term also appears in mathematics (harmonic series, harmonic analysis) and in general usage to describe pleasing, balanced combinations. 'Harmonic' functions as both an adjective and a noun.
Examples
- The third harmonic of the guitar string vibrated at precisely three times the fundamental frequency. 吉他弦的第三谐波以恰好三倍于基频的频率振动。El tercer armónico de la cuerda de guitarra vibró exactamente a tres veces la frecuencia fundamental.ギター弦の第3高調波は基本周波数のちょうど3倍の周波数で振動した。기타 현의 제3고조파는 기본 주파수의 정확히 3배 주파수로 진동했다.

- The harmonic convergence of fiscal policy and market conditions created an unusually favourable environment for investment. 财政政策和市场条件的和谐交汇为投资创造了异常有利的环境。La convergencia armónica de la política fiscal y las condiciones del mercado creó un entorno inusualmente favorable para la inversión.財政政策と市場環境の調和的な収束が、投資にとって異例に好ましい環境を生み出した。재정 정책과 시장 환경의 조화로운 수렴이 투자에 유례없이 유리한 환경을 조성했다.
