endorse
Meaning: To declare one's public approval or support for something or someone. Also, to sign the back of a cheque to make it payable, or (in the UK) to record a penalty on a driving licence.
In its most common sense, endorsement implies a public and often influential declaration of support — a celebrity endorsing a product, an organisation endorsing a candidate, or a colleague endorsing your skills. In British motoring law, to have your licence endorsed means having penalty points added to it. In banking, endorsing a cheque means signing it over. The noun 'endorsement' is widely used in marketing, politics, and professional networking.
