Meaning: An official ban on trade or other commercial activity with a particular country; a restriction or prohibition, especially on the release of information.
Trade embargoes are imposed by governments as a form of political or economic pressure, often as an alternative to military action. In media and publishing, an embargo is an agreement to withhold information until a specified date. The plural is 'embargoes,' and it can also be used as a verb ('to embargo goods').
