diaspora
Meaning: The dispersion of a people from their original homeland to other parts of the world; also the community of people living outside their ancestral country.
Originally referring specifically to the Jewish diaspora (the scattering of Jews from ancient Israel), the term is now applied to any dispersed community — the Indian diaspora, the African diaspora, the Irish diaspora. In Britain, diaspora communities have profoundly shaped the country's culture, cuisine, and identity. The concept emphasises the maintenance of cultural identity and connection to a homeland despite physical separation.
