constituency
Meaning: A defined geographical area represented by an elected member of Parliament; also, the body of voters or supporters of a particular cause or organisation.
In British politics, the UK is divided into 650 parliamentary constituencies, each represented by one MP in the House of Commons. Constituency boundaries are periodically reviewed by the Boundary Commission. The term is also used more broadly to mean any group of people with shared interests that a politician or organisation serves. Common collocations include 'marginal constituency,' 'constituency MP,' and 'constituency surgery.'
