concordance
Meaning: An alphabetical index of the principal words used in a book or body of work, showing every context in which each word appears; also, agreement or consistency between things.
Concordance has a specialised meaning in literary and biblical scholarship, where concordances have been compiled for centuries to enable detailed study of texts — a concordance to Shakespeare, for instance, lists every occurrence of every significant word. In medicine, concordance has replaced 'compliance' to describe the degree to which patients agree with and follow treatment plans, reflecting a shift towards shared decision-making. The general sense of agreement or harmony is formal but widely understood.
