Clichéd (also spelled cliched) is the adjective form of 'cliché' and is used broadly to criticise anything that feels predictable and unimaginative. It is softer than 'hackneyed' or 'trite' and is common in everyday speech as well as criticism. People often use it self-consciously — 'I know it sounds clichéd, but...' — acknowledging the predictability of what they are about to say.
