biomarker
Meaning: A measurable biological indicator used to assess health, disease progression, or the effect of treatment.
Biomarkers include molecules found in blood, urine, or tissue, as well as physiological measurements such as blood pressure or heart rate. They are essential in clinical trials for measuring drug efficacy and in diagnostics for early disease detection. Common examples include cholesterol levels and prostate-specific antigen (PSA).
Examples

- Researchers identified a new biomarker that could enable earlier detection of pancreatic cancer.
- The clinical trial used several biomarkers to track the drug's effectiveness over six months.
