servile
의미: Excessively willing to serve or please others; showing a lack of self-respect or independence. Describes behaviour that is obsequiously submissive or slavish.
Servile is always pejorative. It implies that the deference being shown is excessive, degrading, or insincere — the servile courtier, the servile employee who agrees with everything the boss says. The word is used in political analysis to criticise leaders or nations that are perceived as too compliant towards a more powerful ally, and in literary criticism to describe characters who have surrendered their dignity. It is stronger than 'submissive' and more contemptuous than 'deferential.' The noun form is 'servility.'
