paradox
의미: A seemingly contradictory or absurd statement or situation that, upon investigation, may prove to be true or well-founded; a person, thing, or situation that combines contradictory qualities.
Paradoxes are central to philosophy, logic, mathematics, and everyday reasoning. Famous examples include Zeno's paradoxes (can Achilles overtake a tortoise?), the liar's paradox ('this statement is false'), and the ship of Theseus (if every plank is replaced, is it still the same ship?). In everyday usage, paradox describes any surprising contradiction: 'the paradox of choice' (too many options make us less happy). The adjective is 'paradoxical.' Paradoxes often reveal deep truths about the nature of language, logic, or reality.
