micrometre
의미: A metric unit of length equal to one millionth of a metre (one thousandth of a millimetre), used to measure microscopic structures such as cells, bacteria, and semiconductor features.
The micrometre, symbolised as µm, is sometimes informally called a 'micron.' It is the standard unit for describing the size of biological cells, airborne particles, and the thickness of thin films. In semiconductor manufacturing, feature sizes are often quoted in micrometres or nanometres. Note that 'micrometre' (the unit of length) should not be confused with 'micrometer' (the measuring instrument), though the spellings converge in American English.

From Greek mikros (small) and metron (measure). The unit term entered English in the 19th century; the informal 'micron' was deprecated by the SI system in 1967 in favour of micrometre.
