aneurysm
의미: An abnormal bulge or ballooning in the wall of a blood vessel, most commonly an artery. If it ruptures, it can cause life-threatening internal bleeding.
Aneurysms most frequently affect the aorta and the cerebral arteries. An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) may grow silently for years before rupturing, which is why the NHS offers screening to men over sixty-five. Risk factors include high blood pressure, smoking, atherosclerosis, and family history. Treatment options range from watchful waiting for small aneurysms to surgical repair or endovascular stent grafting.
