during
意味: Throughout the course of a period of time; at some point within a period
'During' is a preposition indicating when something happens within a time period. It can mean throughout ('during the summer') or at some point within ('I woke up during the night'). Unlike 'for' (duration length), 'during' answers 'when?' not 'how long?'. It's followed by nouns, not verbs.

起源と歴史
From an Anglo-French form of Old French 'durer' (to last), from Latin 'dūrāre' (to harden, to endure). Originally a present participle meaning 'lasting', it became a preposition meaning 'throughout the duration of'. Related to 'durable', 'duration', and 'endure' — all sharing the Latin root for lasting.
