起源と歴史
From Old English 'andlang' meaning 'continuous, extending the full length of' (and- 'facing, against' + lang 'long'). The literal sense was 'the whole length of'. The modern casual sense of 'come along' (accompany) developed from the idea of moving the full length of a journey together.
