unravel
意味: To investigate and solve a complex problem or mystery, or to come apart or disintegrate gradually.
Unravel has a productive ambiguity: it can mean both to untangle something (revealing the truth) and to fall apart (as plans or agreements unravel). Journalists favour it for both senses — 'detectives unravelled the conspiracy' and 'the peace process unravelled.' This dual meaning makes context essential. It pairs well with 'mystery,' 'plot,' 'deal,' and 'fabric.'
